What is a Split Spring Washer?

A Split Spring Lock Washeris a hardened coil wire having a slightly trapezoidal section that enables the washer to coil slightly, enough to flick up in opposing directions, at both ends. The idea is that the coils ends slightly dent the material to be fastened and the fastening nut. This dent acts as a little stopper to increase the force needed to undo the nut.
