A Shakeproof washeris used as a way to lock nuts in place and withstand movement caused by the environment and vibrations. Therefore, a shakeproof washer makes the fastening more secure and reliable.
Washers are also important for preventing galvanic corrosion, particularly by insulating steel screws from aluminium surfaces.
Zinc Plating
Zinc coated and plain steel shakeproof washers are for indoor use as outside they will corrode and eventually failin wet conditions.

Overlapping Teeth
As the teeth overlap, when the fastener is tightened the teeth are harder to squash, so a deeper indent occurs, creating a more secure lock. These are best used when the joint is intended to be permanent.
